One of the most frequent questions I get from aspiring pastured egg farmers or really anyone looking to add the fertility to the soil that mobile egg housing offers, is how much does your egg mobile cost and where did I get the plans?
Innovation is expensive. But thankfully there are a host of pioneers in the pastured egg space that have paved the way, made their own trials and errors and have generously assisted those that follow in their footsteps.
Our inspriation was drawn from Richard Perkins, who has provided his blessing and a forward for these digital plans available as a downloadable ebook direct from our website.
To work out if these plans are for you, here are the basic parameters:
- This will cost roughly $3500 to build, depending on your ability to forage and barter
- This will host 300-400 hens
- This enables you move your trailer through a normal farm gate, no need for double gates, which is important when considering leased land as well
- This is light enough to be able to move with an ATV, no heavy tractors or machinery required
- You will receive step by step instrcutions, professionally illustrated plans, and a cut sheet for materials
It's for the above reasons that we found ourselves drawn to this particular design for our circumstances, particularly as we began our farming journey, and continue to expand our farming enterprise, on leased land.
